The North East is well known for its growing tourism interests and already-famous landmarks, with Northumberland in fact showing an 8.4% rise in tourism since figures of just six per cent were challenged to be met back in 2011.
Pet lovers are the often on the lookout for an attractive route to take them on their walks, but what are some of the local routes that you can visit as an additional treat? We put out the question of where are some of the best places in the North East to take your pooch; here here are a few of the suggestions:
Sycamore gap – Hadrians Wall
An obvious suggestion that cropped up instantly was a favourite, bucket list-worthy walk to Hadrians Wall and Sycamore Gap.
Walk alongside the wall to Milecastle 37 and the famous Sycamore Gap, taking in the amazing sights with your dog along the way.
Along the journey also, a little way to the east of Steelrigg, comes a fantastic photo opportunity with the Robin Hood tree. Made famous through a scene in the Kevin Costner film, the curious will not be disappointed.
Beadnell Beach
Pat Wall meanwhile suggests another Northumberland favourite, which will be more accessible as summer comes to a close.
Beadnell Village is set at the end of a glorious stretch of beach – known as Beadnell Bay – famously well-equipped for watersports fans.
Its beach certainly lends itself well to those into their surfing or scuba diving, but also offers the glorious view and is backed by huge dunes of sand, stretching South for miles.
Rothley Castle/Ruins
Another Northumberland suggestion (by Sarah Manson) is the Rothley Castle walk, following a circular route around the hill upon which the Castle itself is planted.
A quiet area to enjoy the time spent with your dog, the walk – which can be taken in any direction – offers fantastic views north west towards Harwood Forest and Simonside, plus the east sight towards Longwhitton.
Those taking the walk can also enjoy the visit of Rothley Craggs or Scots Gap, the walk also providing a bit of a cardio workout at times as a possible added bonus!
