You’ve done it! You’ve aced your A Levels and got onto your dream course at either Northumbria or Newcastle University – congratulations! Now for that all important move to the greatest city in the world.
While Newcastle is infamous for its student population, incredible nightlife and abundance of restaurants, there are tons of other attractions that make our city so wonderful! Check out our list of the top five places to visit in and around the city below.
Angel of the North
Okay, so it’s not STRICTLY in Newcastle – but a visit to the Angel of the North is an absolute must during your time in the Toon. Designed by Antony Gormley, the iconic sculpture turned 20 this year and still looks as magnificent as ever. Plus, you’ll soon realise that NOTHING beats the feeling of seeing the Angel on the train journey back to Newcastle!

St James’ Park
Even if football isn’t your thing, a trip to the home of Newcastle United is definitely worth it. While the team might not be the greatest in the land, the diehard Geordie faithful are some of the best fans in the world and the atmosphere in the stadium is something everyone should experience.
Housing 52,000, the stadium also hosts concerts and gigs, with Ed Sheeran playing three sold out shows there this summer!

The Quayside
Newcastle and Gateshead’s quayside area is iconic for many reasons. The two are connected by seven wonderful bridges, most notably the Tyne Bridge and the Millennium Bridge, and house some of the city’s most iconic restaurants. With the Sage, Baltic Flour Mill and By the River Brew Co all available on the Gateshead side of the river, there’s simply tons of choice at the Quayside – and you can explore it all during your time in the city!
Osborne Road
Osborne Road has been labelled the ‘Notting Hill’ of Newcastle – and with good reason. The Jesmond hotspot houses some of the city’s most popular bars, including Spy Bar, Billabong, Osbornes and 97 & Social, and provides a more trendy, chilled out vibe than a typical night on the Toon. Oh, and you’ll find Mansons just two minutes away from all of these bars – so why not pop in and say hello?
The Metro Centre
The Metro Centre is one of Europe’s largest shopping centres and houses all of your favourite high street brands, a cinema and games arcade. Easily reached by bus from the city centre, get lost in shopping before stopping off at one of the plethora of restaurants in the centre to rest and refuel!
